What would you do if you were told you were about to die? What risks would you take? Who would you spend your time with? What would you do with your 182.5 days? What would you do with your 4380 hours? In January 2015, those were the words that director Grace Wethor heard when a tumor was discovered in her brain stem. An 8% chance of survival for six months sent her and her single mother on a series of adventures across the world that would eventually launch her film career, introduce her to the world of legislative advocacy at the United Nations + Capitol Hill + the White House... and meet Jillian Shea Spaeder.
Written by Jillian Shea Spaeder, Saving Buddy Charles is a coming-of-age comedy inspired by her real-life experience of living this fate alongside Grace and using comedy to cope, bringing light to dark situations. Through a team of award-winning filmmakers, this story is a perfect look into life in all of its unexpected ups and downs.
Saving Buddy Charles follows best friends Clara and Sydney as they embark on a cross-country adventure to rescue a pet lizard while one secretly carries a burden that could change both of their lives forever.
Hayao Miyazaki once said, “The relationship is not one of me creating the film, but rather of the film forcing me to create it.” We know that we have to tell this story and that we are the best people to do it… because we lived it.
